Director Of Programs

The Director of Programs for NEAVS, a Boston based, national/international, 111 years old, animal protection not-for-profit, advances organizational goals through

  • Strategic planning and implementation; program staff supervision; coalition building with like-minded organizations; overseeing research and investigations; initiating and managing legislative and education programs; and other responsibilities to serve and accomplish the organization’s mission.

The Director of Programs reports directly to the Executive Director and in his/her absence, to the President. Attendance at certain functions, meetings, conferences and other NEAVS’ related activities is required and involves some travel. The position is located in the downtown Boston home office. 

Qualifications - Applicants must have a minimum of seven years of programmatic work in an animal advocacy or other not-for-profit advocacy setting; experience and expertise in targeting and following through on campaigns; good outreach and supervisory skills; record of programmatic effectiveness; experience in or an advanced understanding of  anti-vivisection work; energy and stamina; experience in planning, coordinating and evaluating programs; and a keen ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment. Position requires a minimum of a BA/BS degree or equivalent (in science, a plus), strong communications (both verbal and written) and computer skills. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a team environment, knows how to manage and delegate and is receptive to direction.

Salary Range - $40-55,000 commensurate with experience, including a progressive benefit package.

Program Assistant/Associate
(Research and Investigations concentration).

The Program Assistant/Associate (with research and investigations concentration) advances organizational goals through research, writing and investigations and other program responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Providing informational research and investigations for campaigns, website and newsletters

  • Collaborating with program staff on outreach, communications and strategy.

  • Attending conferences, functions or meetings.

  • Performing duties outside of primary area of responsibility as assigned by NEAVS Executive Director and/or immediate supervisor.

Requirements - Minimum: (Assistant/Associate level) three/five years of experience in anti-vivisection or other animal protection work, excellent research, writing, editing and proof reading skills; Bachelor or Master’s degree in related field. Experience in journalism or graphics a plus.

The ideal candidate is committed to ending animal research; is experienced with not for profit organizations and possesses excellent interpersonal, writing, computer and multi-tasking skills.

Salary - Commensurate with experience
