Another cruel dissection connection: YOUR support is urgently needed to help end the use of "gestation crates," one of the cruelest practices in pig raising. To produce "pork," pregnant sows spend the majority of their lives in metal crates just two feet wide. Many develop back and pelvic fractures and cannot even turn around.

YOU can help. The Fund for Animals is urging animal activists everywhere to gather signatures to place an initiative to ban these cruel practices on the Florida ballot. A total of 650,000 signatures must be collected by June 30th for the initiative to appear on the November 2002 ballot.

In addition, anti-vivisectionists strongly oppose the taking of fetal pigs for dissection classes – a practice the slaughter industry tries to justify claiming fetal pigs not used for dissection are discarded after their mothers are slaughtered anyhow. Slaughtering mothers and "harvesting" their unborn young for science education is unconscionable cruelty.
