A Voice for All Animals

Dear Mayor of San Polo d'Enza:
The New England Anti-Vivisection Society (NEAVS) is a 109-year-old
animal protection organization with corporate headquarters
in Boston, Massachusetts. We are writing to add our full support
to the local and international appeals to deny Morini Farm's
authorization to sell dogs and cats to research laboratories.
Here in the United States, we work diligently to put an end
to the rampant and thoughtless breeding of animals to be sold
into biomedical research.
When companies like Morini Farms profit from the sale of
animals, not only do the animals suffer but humanity suffers
as well. Many leading scientific thinkers are becoming more
and more critical of the animal model with some out rightly
denouncing it as crude, limited and often dangerous. The use
of results from research on other species can and does often
lead not to medical breakthroughs but to medical error and
misunderstanding. There is tremendous effort worldwide, which
we help fund, to replace the harmful and lethal use of animals
with humane and scientifically better alternatives.
NEAVS is deeply concerned for the welfare of all the animals
bred at Morini and sold to research laboratories. We join
our voice with the recently formed Assemble a Aperta, the
coalition of citizens and companies in San Polo d'Enza, in
recommending that all the animals at the Morini facility be
placed in humane shelters. We are prepared to help with these
efforts through a small grant to whatever humane organization
agrees to take these animals in and help provide for their
care and placement into good homes. We fully appreciate how
sometimes "doing the right thing" has costs associated
with it that require the caring community's contributions
rather than just its demands.
NEAVS hopes to hear that you, as Mayor of San Polo d'Enza,
have brought the power of your leadership to help these animals.
We in turn will be privileged to help with these efforts in
any way we can.
Best regards,
Theodora Capaldo, EdD
