NALC Donations Fund Muscular Dystrophy Association's Animal
Research

Dear Mr. Sombrotto,
It was brought to our attention that every
year the NALC raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for
the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). While it is very
commendable to encourage your members to give to a charity,
the dollars that go to the MDA fund unnecessary and inhumane
animal research. NEAVS asks that your members’ donations instead
be directed towards a charity that does not test on animals.
The MDA has funded experimenters who have
used mice, rats, rabbits, and dogs. State-of-the-art human
cell and tissue experiments, however, lead to less expensive
and more reliable results for human disease and
will not kill animals. This along with non-invasive imaging
methods such as CAT, PET, and MRI scans, autopsies, and epidemiological
and clinical research will offer people living with disease
much more hope for future cures.
Easter Seals, Spinal Cord Injury Network
International, and the American Spinal Research Foundation
are just a few of the charities that do not test
on animals. If you would like a full list of organizations
that do not test on animals, please visit NEAVS’ Web site
at www.neavs.org/helping/crueltyfreegiving.htm
Sincerely,
Ann Stauble
