Keeping Cloned Meats out of McDonalds
Cloning – a flaw, cruel and unethical scientific manipulation of living animals – causes inconceivable animal suffering. Since McDonald’s, (as well as other major food chains), has no policy on meat and milk from cloned animals, it is impossible to know if their food contains cloned meats. Let McDonald’s know that cloning is indefensible, adds to the already long list of suffering that animals used as food must endure from birth to slaughter and that you ask them to not add cloned animals to their menu. http://apps.mcdonalds.com/contactus/navigate.do?link=socialresp0
Sample letter:
I have learned that the FDA approved the sale of milk and meat from cloned animals and their offspring, without requiring labeling. As a compassionate consumer, it is extremely important to me that food production does not cause animal suffering. Many food production experts oppose cloning since it adds to an otherwise already horrific list of suffering from birth to slaughter that animals as a food source must endure.
McDonald’s purports to be sensitive to social, environmental, animal welfare, and food safety and quality issues. And yet, you do not offer vegan options in the U.S. of any import, and now you do not disclose nor disavow the use of cloned food products on your menu.
I urge you to publicly pledge that cloned animals and their offspring will never be part of McDonald’s menu and that the company will recommit to providing a delicious, varied and affordable vegan menu. If McDonald’s is a global food company that has tried to set an industry example on animal welfare standards, please take the lead and stand up against animal cloning.
Sincerely,
