Vermont Dissection Choice Signed into Law!
The Vermont dissection choice bill (part of H.711) passed the Senate and House and was signed into law on May 20, 2008 by Governor Jim Douglas.
After years of working towards dissection choice, Vermont students in both public and approved private schools now have the right to refuse dissection without penalty.
NEAVS/ESEC presented testimony, sent eAlerts to our Vermont members, and loaned local organizers dissection alternatives (see article on V-Frog) to display on their Lobby Day. The alternative wowed several legislators, including Education Committee chairs.
This is a great victory for Vermont teachers and students and for animals everywhere!
A big thanks to our members for your commitment to animals and for your help every time we asked! Together we can assure a generation of tomorrow’s scientists who will work for better and more humane science.
