A Loss to Friends of All Species

(Spring 2000) — Karen Bunting, described by many as the initial impetus behind Mass. Ballot Question 1 (the petition to ban leg-hold traps), died unexpectedly in November. Said fellow animal advocate, Evelyn Kimber, "Her death is a huge loss to the animals, including the very large number of direct care critters, both domestic and wildlife, whom she fed, medicated, treated, and cared for daily..."

Karen was Chair of ProPAW, Chair of Humane Massachusetts PAC, and was past President of Citizens to End Animal Suffering and Exploitation.

Capt. Tom White of the Animal Rescue League (ARL) of Boston, died this winter after an acute illness. Capt. White served the animals of greater Boston as head of Inspectional Services and led the move to investigate violence towards animals through his educational work with police officers throughout the state.
