Coming to the Rescue

(Spring 2000) — NEAVS' work to terminate terminal dog labs at veterinary schools came to the attention of the University of Pennsylvania chapter of the Student Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Society (SVECCS) at the School of Veterinary Medicine. SVECCS President, Amy Parkman, requested NEAVS' assistance in purchasing a "Rescue Critter," a canine mannequin used as a practice model for blood drawing, intubation and catheterization, CPR, and other emergency and critical care procedures.

According to NEAVS' Program and Research Specialist, Ann Stauble, "NEAVS' contribution to this important program is an investment, not only in this year's class, but also a legacy for classes to come. We hope to leave the students with the resources to broaden their skills, while sparing the animals who would otherwise be used or killed for this purpose."
