Spaying Cats; Sparing Dogs

(Spring 2000) — NEAVS, the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society (MRFRS) in Newburyport, MA; Cattrap, Inc. of Martha's Vineyard, MA; and veterinarian Dr. Rosemarie Williams of The Cat Hospital of Auburn, MA, were highlighted in the November 10, 1999, Auburn News weekly newspaper.

Dr. Williams and Robert Simoni, a vet student at the Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine (TUSVM), spayed/neutered 35 cats and kittens brought to them through a cooperative effort of MRFRS, Cattrap, and NEAVS which funds this and other spay/neuter programs in order to provide surgical experience for Tufts students participating in the NEAVS Vet Ed program. NEAVS' program provides an excellent and superior surgical experience that continues to show that the common training method of practicing on healthy young dogs and pups and then killing them is absolutely unnecessary.

MRFRS and Cattrap report that the kittens have been adopted by good homes and the adult cats have been safely returned to their protected colonies.
