(Fall 2001)NEAVS is pleased to announce the newest member of its Advisory Board, Beverly Rockhill, PhD. Currently at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Rockhill was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Her research focuses on cancer risk estimation and primary prevention of chronic disease.

Dr. Rockhill holds a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa; a master’s degree in Demography from the University of Pennsylvania; and a doctoral degree in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina.

The author of numerous articles, Dr. Rockhill has contributed to the American Journal of Public Health, the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, the American Journal of Epidemiology and many other scholarly and professional works.NEAVS is also proud to announce that Dr. Rockhill will be a regularly contributing writer for our publications and Web site.

Her column, "A Pound of Cure," will look at how information from epidemiological research – that does not involve animals – offers us insight into avenues for prevention of disease in the first place.

This month, look for her first article "The Air We Breathe: Children, Cars and Asthma." This article focuses on decreasing the number of childhood asthma cases in the U.S.
