Cruelty Free International to Launch Global Pledge at The Body Shop

Cruelty Free International, will partner with The Body Shop to launch our first global pledge campaign at The Body Shop on May 15th 2012.

Across the world, The Body Shop customers will have the opportunity to sign a pledge in-store to support Cruelty Free International’s push for a global ban on animal testing for cosmetic products and ingredients.

Over 80% of countries across the world continue to allow animal testing for cosmetics despite the existence of safe and humane alternatives.

Cruelty Free International will use the pledges to call on governments and regulators around the world to recognize that "cruelty free" is best for both business and ethics and therefore introduce a ban on animal testing for cosmetic products and ingredients.

In addition to engaging with the estimated 275 million people a year who visit The Body Shop stores, Cruelty Free International will also link to The Body Shop websites, which host millions of customers annually.

Paul McGreevy, International Values and R&D Director, said “The Body Shop believes passionately that no animal should be harmed because of the cosmetics industry and we have a long commitment to this cause. Unfortunately many people believe this issue is resolved and it is not. We are very proud to support Cruelty Free International’s campaign to achieve a worldwide ban on animal testing and encourage everyone to sign their pledge in our stores!

Michelle Thew, Chief Executive of Cruelty Free International, said, “The Body Shop has been internationally renowned for its Against Animal Testing stance right from the very start. They have led the way with their efforts to drive animal testing out of the cosmetics industry, and Cruelty Free International is delighted that this commitment is again prominent at The Body Shop.
