Demand Animal Welfare Transparency & Accountability at USDA

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is protecting animal abusers.

By supporting the Animal Welfare Accountability and Transparency Act, you ensure that the USDA will make available information about animal abusers found to be in violation of the Animal Welfare Act. This information allows NEAVS and other organizations to expose and hold accountable those who abuse animals and the law. We’re grateful to Rep. Blumenauer and Sen. Wyden for sponsoring this important legislation.

A Failure of Transparency

In February 2018, the USDA, who is responsible for inspecting the animal welfare conditions in labs, removed tens of thousands of records from their website, making it harder for animal protection groups to hold violators accountable.

Under intense pressure from the public, Congress, and animal protection groups including NEAVS, USDA restored some of the documents along with a search feature that’s far from useful as the database can’t be used to identify any of the worst violators of animal welfare laws and regulations. What’s worse, USDA is still refusing to reinstate the compliance records.

Take Action!

We cannot wait for USDA to re-publish this critically important animal welfare information. But Congress has the power to force USDA to do this. Please ask your Congressperson to cosponsor the Animal Welfare Accountability and Transparency Act today!
