Cat Adoption Offer Featured on “The Pet Show with Dr. Katy"

Mike Ryan, October 31, 2018

If you’re in the Washington, D.C. media market and you love animals, you’ve surely heard of Dr. Katy Nelson and her show “The Pet Show with Dr. Katy.” Dr. Katy’s the host and executive producer, and is also a highly sought-after veterinarian practicing out of Alexandria, VA.

Dr. Katy was kind enough to invite NEAVS on her show to discuss NEAVS’s offer to adopt the cats USDA would otherwise kill in unnecessary and wasteful experiments taking place in Maryland. I joined Justin Goodman from the White Coat Waste Project, who originally broke the story about USDA’s cruel kitten-killing experiments.

Our work on this issue is part of a partnership between NEAVS and White Coat Waste, who originally discovered these experiments were taking place and who is working with us to end them.

We at NEAVS remain hopeful that USDA will take us up on our offer to them: We’ll take possession of the 100 kittens, pay for any medication some of them may need, and we’ll work with our network of shelters and rescues to ensure they are adopted.

Dr. Katy has been following this story since the beginning, and we’re grateful that through her coverage of this story that she’s helped people understand that these cats can absolutely be safely adopted out from a veterinarian’s perspective.

This segment will also air in the greater D.C. area on ABC7 this Saturday at 11am.

If you haven’t had your voice heard on this issue there is still time. Tell USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue to take up our offer to adopt these kittens into loving homes. Thank you.
