Register for APHIS *Virtual* Listening Session on March 14th

In case you missed the news and our corresponding Action Alert, NEAVS is gravely concerned about the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) because it is considering new inspection standards to USDA-licensed facilities—including research laboratories. These possible changes come under the guise of decreased regulations—but at the cost of the thousands of animals held captive in labs.

As an animal advocacy organization, NEAVS strongly opposes changes that redirect inspections of USDA-licensed facilities to private organizations, allowing for dangerous self-policing of research labs at the detriment of animals purportedly protected under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA). Above all, animals in labs deserve the protection afforded by direct agency oversight, unannounced annual inspections, and transparency of recordsPlease voice your opposition to the USDA’s possible changes.

Here are two ways you can get involved:

1. Register for the APHIS (Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service) *virtual* listening session on Wednesday, March 14th (1pm – 5pm EST) — Any individual who is interested is welcome to attend; however, registration is required. Click here to register.

2. Post Comments on the Federal Register — Tell the USDA they must protect animals in labs. Reminder: you have until Wednesday, March 21st to submit comments. Click here to submit your comment.

Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to complete these actions on behalf of animals in labs.
