Staff Spotlight: Erinn Larson

In March 2017, Erinn Larson joined the NEAVS team. From day one, as our Marketing and Communications Associate, she has been enthusiastic and a hard worker. Learn more about Erinn below:

1. Tell us a little about yourself. (Yes, anything!)

I’m not sure if it was my Catholic upbringing or having phenomenal role models as a kid, but I’ve always been interested in helping others. Plus, I’m a very active, hands-on person so it’s my personality to “be the change that wish to see in the world.” (Yes I love that quote by Gandhi.)

2. Tell us about your passion for animals.  (e.g. When/how did it start? Favorite animals?/Do you have any companion animals?)

I wish I could pinpoint a time and place where my passion for animals started, but that’d be impossible—animals have always had a special place in my heart. For example, when I was a kid, my favorite toys were plush animals. I have a vibrant memory of building my Beanie Babies a fort and then preparing plates of food for them to enjoy (by drawing them different meals).

Over the years, I’ve been able to expand on my passion for animals through volunteering and my work at NEAVS. Animals in labs not only experience suffering, but they also have the disadvantage of being locked up behind closed doors where everyday people aren’t granted access. These animals need our help and to work at NEAVS on their behalf is an honor and a privilege.

In terms of companion animals, I have one furry friend—a cat named Stanley who I rescued through Craigslist (pictured on the right). He’s one of my best friends!

3. What are you most excited about in terms of your role as Marketing and Communications Associate?

I thoroughly enjoy all the opportunities I get to engage with supporters, donors, or members of the general public. Whether these interactions take place on social media, via email, or in-person (such as at tabling events), I want people to feel comfortable coming to NEAVS with questions, ideas, concerns, you name it. I view the end of vivisection as a collaborative effort. Any action one person takes to support the end of animal testing and research is worth celebrating.

4. Describe yourself in three words.

Enthusiastic. Curious. Diligent.

5. Is there anything else we should know about you? Fun facts?

  • I was born in Connecticut, but I grew up and went to school in Virginia.
  • I love being outdoors. One of my favorite Spring/Summer hobbies is collecting sea glass.
  • I am a fan of doing of spontaneous good deeds. For example, when I take my lunchtime strolls I pick up one piece of litter each day (at minimum).
