Staff Spotlight: Jessica Dickard

Staff Spotlight: Jessica Dickard

Happy April! This month we're shining the Staff Spotlight on Jessica Dickard, Program Associate, who joined the NEAVS team in September 2015!

1. Tell us a little about yourself. (Yes, anything!)

I am an only child and grateful to have ridiculously cool parents who continue to encourage me to engage with my adventurous side, stay creative, and follow my heart at all times.

2. Tell us about your passion for animals.  (e.g. When/how did it start? Favorite animals?)

I have always felt a deep connection with animals and began working with them at a very young age. Some of my earliest memories include “rescuing” worms from the sidewalk after it rained.

I’ve also volunteered for a variety of organizations, including a sanctuary in Florida that provides lifetime care for animals with permanent physical and/or mental conditions who were rendered “unadoptable.”

I believe all living creatures deserve compassion, and always had a special place in my heart for the “underdogs,” including raccoons, mice, and squirrels.  I continuously advocate for a cultural perception shift by sharing my own positive experiences that reflect upon their uniqueness and sentiency.

3. What are you most excited about in terms of your role as Program Associate?

I love that my position at NEAVS allows me to engage and collaborate with an array of like-minded people, including supporters, other leaders in the animal rights movement, and forerunners in the research industry who support the development of in vitro testing methods.

I’m incredibly excited to play an important role in the animal rights movement and channel my knowledge, experience, and passion wholeheartedly toward the mission to end the use and abuse of animals in laboratories.

4. Describe yourself in three words.

Free-spirit. Ambivert. Empath.

5. Is there anything else we should know about you? Fun facts?

  • I have dual citizenship with U.S. and Canada
  • My first spoken word was “french fry”
  • I am motivated by challenge
